First of all, thank
you very much for the interview. How are you doing?
I’m doing well. I finished our U.S. tour, spent about five days in Tokyo, and
then came back to Berlin. Our European tour just started and I’m currently in
Cologne.
Recently you have been touring in the
USA and now you are heading out on a European tour by the end of 2025. What´s
the biggest difference in playing the States versus Europe?
What I’ve been feeling lately is that the U.S. really cares about rock. It
might be conservative, but it's also the place where the culture was born.
There're so many older guys who don't care about trends at all, and it's like
fuckin cool haha... But in Europe or Tokyo, it's normal for some people to
constantly look for something new. That's kinda virtue of art there, right? I
understand both values.
Your music is very uplifting and you
feel calm when you listen to your long passages of sound. How do you know when
you have a new jam that you can play for an audience?
It's a jam, so I don't think about whether it's ready for an audience or not.
We are not on the same wavelength often haha. So we talk about it after shows.
That's all part of being a jam band, isn't it?
Can you please tell us what your great
song ”Futsu Ni Ikirenai” is about? What does it mean?
It means I can’t live a normal life.
It’s a song about not being able to do the usual routine, working the same job
every day, eating, and just getting through the cycle of life.
You are originally from Japan. How is it
for Japanese bands to play in Japan? Is it hard to get concerts and gigs? Can
you support bigger European or American bands in Japan?
I think it’s pretty tough. You need some friendship with people who is around
venues and the scene but everywhere is like that, isn't it?
If a European talks friendly, things probably would go smoothly haha.
We could support a big band in Japan, but no offers so far.
Except for music, where does your
inspiration come from? Do you read books or watch movies?
Yes, I did as you say. I want to get inspiration from everything in life not
only them.
You are a very hardworking band and you
have toured around the world many times now. Do you have any special memories
from touring that you can share with us?
I don’t remember things very well, but recently, the bass completely died on
the first day of the U.S. tour. And next dat we tried to sell it at the merch
table, someone bought it and we got new bass! That's the U.S. you know? Haha
What is your opinion about people in the
audience who record your concerts?
I’m happy about it.
You have been to
Sweden many times now. What do you think about playing for us in Sweden?
Yeah, before I knew it, we’d played in Sweden quite a lot.
I feel like the audience in Stockholm is especially energetic.
If you would be stranded on an isolated
island, which 3 things would you like to have with you?
A helicopter, a helicopter pilot, and water.
I’d go home immediately haha.
Last question for this time. What hopes
do you have for Minami Deutsch in 2026?
We are making a new album.
People have been waiting and we haven’t released anything in about three years
haha.
Looking forward to it!
Thank you very much for the interview! See you on the road.
Thanks,
Kyotaro
